a friend has found the art in beginnings. she takes an australian sunrise on the day of your wedding to hold captive in her camera. then framed and presented—- it is your day’s beginning.
i love beginnings. those first footprints on dew wet grass. how waves window-wipe away tracks on sand…always ready for the next passerby. the in the belly of you swoosh of firstfalls into love. taking seat in an empty room. the start of something.
often it is the sun’s rise. it’s coming round the bend. lifting up the day. i am witness to the opening up. like a child’s surprise at a peek-a-boo game, amazed at the repeat.
god is not surprised by the sunrise. he crafted it. he crafted you. he was at your beginning and says that you are made with marvel. (psalm 139:13-16)
he is god of beginnings. delighted to hold out a new day. saying take this. it’s yours. with only the ahead… ahead. the paper is not crumpled, there are no eraser smudges. it is not a do-over. it is a here’s the START.
…the steadfast love of the lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “the lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore i will hope in him.”
