i learned to drive in papua new guinea. on gravel roads and pot hole paved highways. with ups and downs everywhere, emergency brake was used almost always for the sure of keeping in place. for the insuring of safe.
in the first weeks my hand would hover over it even while driving. just in case. just in case my response was not enough. to feel as if stopping was one of my choices. just in case life began to move too quickly and i could not conform outcome to form only best case.
when god speaks. when small still voice says
sometimes i leave the emergency brake on. i move with my own sure of keeping and insuring of safe firmly locked in place. not trusting that this speed and direction is best plan or good work in me completing.
but sometimes i push button in and lever down with belief first. sometimes i run.
and david said, “the lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this philistine.”…
…when the philistine arose and came and drew near to meet david, david ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the philistine.
