blowing bubbles (7.14am)

children are tireless in pursuit of blowing bubbles. they are not thinking of slippery floors or sticky hands.

they are seeing what joy would look like if god handed it out in brightly colored bottles with plastic wands to dip in again and again.

for everyday breath to make a floating, glistening, rainbow-streaked globe from nearly nothing widens eyes, prompting stop and watch.

and response? to preserve or to poke.

hands cupped to make it their own—-even for a moment. fingers prodding to test it’s strength. to see if it can be undone.

and we let them hold and test because we can offer it again. and again. and again.

until they are ready to reach for dripping plastic wand and release joy.

count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. and let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

    • thank you jason. sometimes i feel like i’m trying to shape a hedge of words into something that is meaningful and sometimes beautiful. i think i’m so close to it sometimes i’m not sure if a coherent message comes across. was feeling discouraged at such a long struggle to get to like six sentences that felt right.anyway, all that to say, i needed the encouragement from your comment today! 1. i STILL love to blow bubbles…i used to do it all the time growing up, from a very small child and even in my teens. i would sit on the verandah stoop and be lost in the tranquility and beauty of these fleeting but oh so ephemeral spheres. all i needed was an old yoghurt pot, some dish detergent and a straw. in my opinion, you are never too old for bubbles… :-)

  2. Blowing bubbles…one of those childhood memories that I would never forget…even now, I would still get excited over bubble blowing…Cheers!! :D

thoughts, reactions or found a typo? i would love to know...
