D when littlest came to me in kitchen swiping peanut butter and jelly on to sides of bread.
“mommy i want to taste the jelly on my tongue first. can you put it on the bottom please?”
my heart laughed out loud at the charm and innocence of it. this no idea yet of something as simple as turning sandwich over. no understanding of the power he had to decide what tongue tasted first.
before showing him one more step towards growing up, i left it a little while in my heart as mothers do. like a present wrapped so charming it’s hard to open, even when inside is worth the getting to.
but i remember. to taste sweet—–spread it on the bottom.
treat others the same way you want them to treat you.
